Alison Russell, LMHC (she/her)

LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR

BIO

From the classroom to the courtroom, I have nearly two decades of experience supporting individuals, families, and systems impacted by complex trauma, generational harm, and chronic disconnection. I specialize in helping people feel seen, understood, and supported in reclaiming their sense of self — especially those who feel stuck in survival mode or burdened by narratives that no longer serve them.

My clinical foundation is rooted in trauma-informed care and the transgenerational effects of untreated mental health. I hold specialized training and certifications in: Forensic Social Work, Forensic Psychology, Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, Bilateral Stimulation (EMDR), Art Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD, Mindfulness and Somatic Regulation, and Solution-Focused Brief therapy. Additionally, I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist (LMHC), a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-1), a Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider (CTMH),

Before I became a full-time clinician, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in K-12 Art Education and my Master’s degree in Counseling and Counselor Education. I served as a public school art teacher and high school counselor for the first decade of my career before spending nearly a decade counseling federally detained young adults struggling with sexual identity issues, crippling addictions, and severe mental illness. These experiences, combined with forensic psychology advocacy in federal courts, deeply shaped my perspective and understanding of the systemic and generational roots of trauma and mental health, and I continue to carry that insight into my therapy practice with a strong commitment to justice, empathy, and cultural humility.

In my off-hours, I’m on a continuous journey to understand myself and humanity through a maternal lens. As someone who has spent over a decade in individual therapy healing from my own traumatic past, I know what it’s like to sit with a stranger and tell your story. I know what it’s like to feel stuck, numb, vulnerable, and unsure of how to begin. Everyone deserves at least one person who refuses to give up on them. I will always be that person. You don’t have to walk this healing journey alone. I have a lantern to guide us. I know where we’re going, and I am committed to walking beside you.
