SARA R. CHURCH, MS, LMHC, CMIP – PRACTICE OWNER

S CHURCH

My name is Sara (she/her), and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Certified Mindfulness-Informed Practitioner. I have over 15 years of experience in behavioral health with individuals, couples, and families needing support through complex life problems. I recognize how difficulties in emotional health can impact all life areas, and limit one’s ability to grow into the person they’re meant to be. I am experienced in treating a variety of issues in children, teens, and adults. My therapeutic approach centers around the identified needs of the person in treatment, as well as the strengths they possess. Ultimately, therapy is meant for developing a deeper understanding of ourselves and our environment. In doing so, we are able to access love, happiness, peace, balance, and/or purpose where it has been difficult to otherwise. You are the healer; therapy is the catalyst. It is my responsibility to support and empower my clients while holding them accountable to the goals they have set for themselves.

My theoretical platform draws from humanist, attachment, and feminist theories. I find somatic processing and cognitive behavioral strategies to be effective–with an emphasis on the mind-body connection. I often incorporate polyvagal theory, functional breath work, and other mind/body strategies in treatment. In regards to trauma resolution specifically, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Narrative Exposure Therapy. I am practiced at treating the needs of LGBTQIA+ ‘family’, including required letters for gender affirming procedures.

MATT MILLER, MA, LMHC

M MILLER

My name is Matt (he/him), and I am a treatment counselor who has worked in the mental health field for almost 14 years in several settings which include: residential facilities, inpatient hospitalization, and community mental health centers. From these experiences I have developed a varied and person-centered approach to treatment. My approach to treatment lies in understanding what goals you would like to attain and to help develop strategies based on your strengths to reach those goals together. I have training and experience in several evidence-based practices which includes the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, as well as Cognitive Processing Therapy for the treatment of PTSD. I have significant experience in helping adults and adolescents to address difficulties with anxiety, depression, conflict in relationships, controlling anger/irritability, substance use difficulties, and self-esteem.

Unfortunately, we live in a society that often does not understand what it is like to battle with a mental illness which can lead to feeling misunderstood, isolated, shameful, and guilty for the difficulties that are being experienced in addition to the symptoms themselves. Although many people experience difficulties with mental health your journey is unique to you which is why it is so important to work together to find the solutions that fit you best. Together, we can find the best strategy to help you to be a happier and healthier you.

LINDSAY MACK, MS, LMHC

L MACK crop

My name is Lindsay (she/her), and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I am passionate about helping individuals feel free to be their most confident and authentic selves through creating purpose and meaning in their lives. I have ten years experience working as a therapist with adolescents and adults. Before private practice I have worked in community mental health with varied settings in school-based, outpatient, and community work. In addition to providing therapy, I have extensive experience in providing skills training and empathic psycho-education to help clients overcome personal barriers and reach the action stage of change. In addition to my Masters Degree in Community Counseling, I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education and taught art in school settings for four years before deciding to become a therapist. This experience led me to understand that making meaningful connections can lead to healing of the mind, body, and spirit.

Due to my varied background, my therapeutic orientation involves using a mindful and non-judgmental person – centered approach, using Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma – Focused CBT, and solutions-focused therapy. I also use art with willing individuals  (no artistic skills or experience needed) to assist individuals in expressing themselves non – judgmentally and creatively. I have found that using art in my practice helps individuals increase insight and learn to regulate their complex emotions. I subscribe to the belief that “Artwork is a visual documentation of thoughts and feelings… the long-term benefits of this process include improved self-esteem, richer self-empowerment, and the development of skills that can be used in the future to deal with life’s challenges.” – Leah Guzman, ATR – BC.

MERCEDES CAREY, MSW, LSW

M CAREY

My name is Mercedes (she/her), and I am a Licensed Social Worker. I have a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Indianapolis and a Bachelor’s degree in sociology with a criminal justice minor from the University of Dayton. I have eight years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families. I have worked within various systems, including child welfare, juvenile justice, and schools.  I also served in the Army National Guard for eight years.

I currently hold a nutrition certification and am studying to become a personal trainer. I’m interested in assisting people in discovering new ways to live a lifestyle that promotes healing on a mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual level. I am specializing in somatic treatments, including mindfulness and movement, to treat the mind and body together. My preference is to involve movement in therapy. This could include walking, hiking, stretching, or even strength training. We would be a great fit for one another if you are, or would like to be, an active person who wishes to incorporate movement into their life on a regular basis.

I enjoy working with individuals who experience difficulty with stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and LGBTQIA+ concerns. As a queer masculine-presenting woman of color, I know what it’s like to belong to multiple marginalized identities and navigate spaces where your entire self is not acknowledged or welcomed.
