Kalen Granger, MA, LMHC
LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR, NAIL ARTIST/OWNER OF BLACK COFFEE NAILS

BIO
My name is Kalen, and I provide therapy to adults and adolescents living with the challenges and joys of being a human. I believe that each person has inherent worth, value, and insight. Sometimes our experiences can make this hard for folks to believe about themselves or create barriers to meaningful relationships and connections. The work I do with folks is focused on creating a therapeutic space and relationship where we can work through those experiences so that life can feel worthwhile and fulfilling.
My approach to therapy is based in cognitive behavior therapy, though I pull from many styles such as interpersonal approaches, dialectical behavior therapy, and emotion-focused therapy in order to curate the environment for my clients’ needs. I am also trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy. This means we’ll talk a lot about how you experience the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, as well as how we both respond to one another in the room during sessions. I also help folks learn a variety of skills from these approaches to help make the complexity of being a human more manageable.
I have worked with a range of presenting concerns, including anxiety and depressive disorders, trauma, self-esteem issues, phase of life concerns, and relationship issues including domestic violence. In addition to identifying as part of the LGBTQ+ community, I am particularly passionate about working with and affirming others who are a part of this vibrant community, including helping gender diverse folks navigate their experiences. I am always striving to create a space that allows people to feel safe to be vulnerable and to be their most authentic selves. However, as a therapist, I won’t be the right fit for every person, and that’s okay. I will always provide referrals to other providers who may be a better fit.
I earned my Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Indianapolis, and have worked as a therapist serving adolescents (15 and older) and adults since 2016 in home-based and outpatient settings. In my free time, I enjoy reading (ask me about my Self Through Story therapy group!), providing services in the nail industry, PC gaming, and hand lettering/calligraphy.
